وقع الحادث بالقرب من مضيق جبل طارق، وتسبب في تسرب حوالي 500 ألف لتر من مادة البارافين من ناقلة “بوما”، التي كانت في طريقها لتفريغ حمولتها في سان روكي. وأكدت السلطات الإسبانية أن الأضرار لحقت بجانب السفينة “بوما”، بينما تضررت مقدمة السفينة الأخرى، دون تسجيل أي إصابات بين أفراد الطاقم.
وأفادت المصادر بأن فرق الإنقاذ تدخلت بسرعة بعد تلقي بلاغ في الساعة 4:30 صباحاً، مما استدعى إرسال قوارب الإنقاذ وسفينة الإنقاذ “سلفامار دينيبولا” لتقييم الأضرار. وأكدت الفرق عدم وجود إصابات بشرية، وأظهرت قدرة السفينتين على مواصلة الإبحار. كما تم جمع عينات من الموقع تحتوي على مادة تشبه البارافين لفحصها في ميناء الجزيرة الخضراء، حيث لا تزال التحقيقات جارية لتحديد طبيعة التسرب ومدى خطورته.
