شهدت المملكة المغربية ليلة أمس الاثنين 10 فبراير هزة أرضية بلغت قوتها 5.2 درجات على سلم ريشتر، وفقا لما أعلنه المعهد الوطني للجيوفيزياء التابع للمركز الوطني للبحث العلمي والتقني.
وتركزت الهزة في إقليم وزان، حيث تم تحديد مركزها في جماعة بريكشة على عمق 20 كيلومترا، دون تسجيل أي خسائر مادية أو بشرية.
تزامن الزلزال مع تحذيرات سابقة كان قد أطلقها عالم الزلازل الهولندي فرانك هوغربيتس، الذي أشار إلى احتمالية وقوع زلازل قوية في منطقة البحر المتوسط، مطالبًا السكان بأخذ الحيطة والحذر.
وكان هوغربيتس قد أوضح في توقعاته أن المنطقة تقع على عدة صفائح تكتونية، تشمل، الصفيحة الأوراسية في الشمال، الصفيحة الإفريقية في الجنوب، اللوحة العربية جنوب شرق المنطقة، صفيحة الأناضول وصفيحة بحر إيجة بين تركيا واليونان.
وقد أثار الزلزال تفاعلا واسعا على المستويين المحلي والدولي، خاصة في ظل الجدل المستمر حول مدى دقة التنبؤ بالزلازل وإمكانية الاعتماد عليها في التحذير من الكوارث الطبيعية.
